In this interview, you will learn how the Republic of Moldova’s energy security has evolved since 2022 and what the current priorities are in this area, with a focus on developing infrastructure and storage capacity, improving the regulatory framework, and protecting vulnerable consumers. The interview highlights the impact of the operationalization of the Iași–Ungheni pipeline and the essential role of diversifying supply sources in strengthening the country’s energy resilience, while also emphasizing the constant support provided by Romania in this process. Mr. Junghietu explains the significance and benefits of Moldova’s energy interconnectivity with Romania and Ukraine, as well as the potential of renewable energy as a strategic solution for enhancing the security and sustainability of the energy system. The interview also addresses the topic of public interest regarding potential changes in energy prices affecting citizens, in the context of new supply mechanisms and social protection measures.
At the same time, information is provided regarding the creation of natural gas reserves totaling approximately 200 million cubic meters, intended to ensure the continuity of supplies, as well as the strategic importance of the Vulcănești–Chișinău power line—symbolically named the “Energy Independence Line”—which will reduce the Republic of Moldova’s structural vulnerabilities. Finally, Mr. Junghietu expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Moldova’s partners who are supporting the consolidation of our energy security.
